If your business is starting to grow and you are now ready to hire employees so that you can evenly distribute the common tasks at hand – congratulations! You have now reached the next step in business. This is a very exciting time that should be appreciated, but having said that, it can also be a rather intimidating one if you’ve never gone through the hiring process before.
It’s very important that you go out of your way to find the best, as settling with average can cause a great harm to the business that you have worked so hard for to create.
Here’s what you need to do.
Improve your software
A big part of finding the right candidates, is all down to the software you use in order to evaluate all the necessary information given. We live in the year 2018, so no one searches for jobs at the back of the newspaper or in shop windows anymore – it’s all done online. Rolepoint is a brilliant software to use because it saves an awful lot of time because you don’t have to sort through various messy spreadsheets in order to get the information that you require. But not only that, it makes the whole experience a lot more interesting and rewarding as you get your roles filled the way you want.
Enjoy the interview
Holding interviews are the only way you can really get a sense of the person, because while they may have a great cover letter and all the qualifications they need to get the job – they might be a miserable person to be around in the workplace, and that can risk bringing everyone’s mood down and essentially creating an unpleasant environment to work in. When interviewing, it’s important that you not only ask questions as to why they think they can do the job, and what experience they have, but also why they would make a good addition to the team. What personality will they bring? While it’s always good to be perfect on paper, you also want your potential employee to have an awesome personality that everyone can thrive off and use to drive the business forward.
Check the references
References are the thing that candidates include at the bottom of their CV. And while it is said to be so important, believe it or not, not a lot of employers actually look or chase them up because it takes time and effort that they don’t want to waste. But this is a really big mistake to make. The reason for references is so you can speak to their previous employer and figure out whether they’re the right person for the job you’re trying to fill. One of the best questions you can ever ask when calling a reference, is “why did they leave?” This will say so much about the candidate. They may not have enjoyed that line of work, they may have wanted more of a challenge – or they may have gotten fired.
