As a student entrepreneur, it is ever important to grow your network and expand your resources. A great place to do this is on your own college campus. Getting involved in an organization or club, fraternity or sorority, or anything on campus is important.
I am working on writing a multi-part series which will share different benefits for getting involved on your college campus. I have no idea how many parts this series will turn into, but it will be at least 2! So, if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions about the topic, feel free to leave a comment or email me and I can write on it in another part of the series!
Expand Your Network: By becoming involved in something, you easily expand your network by at least the number of people within the organization that you join. You become friends with new people who you may have never imagined and may pick up leadership positions you may have never thought you could come across. From personal experience, becoming involved in organizations quickly expanded my network and “filled my rolodex†(even though I don’t have one). I took leadership positions in the Collegiate Entrepreneurs (now my brainchild) and got to meet many top faculty/staff at my university (different directors, presidents, and deans of different departments/colleges within the university).
Be Active: Just by getting involved on campus, you are starting to be active. However, just joining an organization and showing up to meetings but not doing anything with it is a waste of your time but also the time of everyone else involved. In order to make the connections you want to and to use them to your advantage, you have to be active in what ever you get involved in!
Part 2 coming soon…
This is so true! The majority of sales during the first month of operating my business were from connections I’ve had on campus.
I am glad to hear that staying connected and being involved helped you to spark your business and get you off on the right foot!
