As with any business, the HR department can often come under some scrutiny. Whilst some businesses have a HR department and system that works wonders, others fail miserably. So here are a few tips to improve your HR in business.I
Have Someone In Every Day
Even if your company is fairly small, it still warrants having a HR person in the office every day. That’s five days a week or whatever way your company operates. This is because problems can crop up at any point during the working day and to delay what can sometimes be a very problematic situation, could lead to further problems within the company. If a staff member is in need of the HR department in relation to a new job advertisement that your company is doing, they may have to wait until that person is in. This is wasting precious time for those who need that new member of staff, and that could delay and hinder workplace productivity. So make sure you have someone in on the daily.
Make Sure HR Are People Persons
The human relations department has a clue in the title of their job as to what type of person they should be. Yes, that’s right, a people person. If the person you currently have in the department either as a manager or assistant, doesn’t necessarily have a good track record with speaking to people, it’s a problem. You don’t want someone who will become hot-headed or speak to someone rudely because they’re supposed to be a supportive element for an employee. They aren’t meant to be someone who’s unapproachable because then you have staff walking around who don’t know what to do because they’re only option for support isn’t there.
Encourage An Unbiased Viewpoint
Whether the staff member is complaining about the payroll processing system or about their own boss, a HR manager or assistant should be completely unbiased and should be offering a response that merely encourages a staff member to make their own decision. HR can give advice in terms of the options that are available to them, but they shouldn’t be making the decision for them. In regards to the relationship between staff members and the employer, human resources should be acting as the go-between and the middle-man to help negotiate and chair any necessary meetings.
Have Your Staff Regularly Meet With HR
When it comes to your staff’s happiness, a good way of making sure they’re well in both physical health and mental well being is to meet with HR. On a regular basis, each staff member can sit down and chat with the department to update them on any concerns they have both in and outside of the workplace which could affect the business and their work performance in general. It’s good to make sure a staff member feels like they can speak to someone
Take these tips to help boost the performance of your own HR department and improve it for the sake of your staff and your business.
