Working Hours

When you work from home and manage your own company you are in charge of setting your own work hours. The hours you work need to match your employees so you can be on-hand to help with any of their needs or difficulties. However, if you need to fit work around other commitments such as the school run then alert your employees to the hours you will be working. Usually, a working day is nine to five, however, you could say you will be around during the hours of 8 till 6 to make sure all workers are covered.

Contact

When you work from home, away from the office and therefore your employees, you need to keep up to date with them. There are many ways you can do this, including using online apps and programs. You could also use something along the lines of a free online community app to keep in touch with everyone. You can start a group chat so that everyone can see what is going on and sort out any issues immediately. It may also be useful to alert your employees that they can message you privately to discuss any matters with work.

Delegate

When it comes to working from home you need to still be able to delegate tasks to all your workers. It helps to know what everyone is doing and chase them up if the task is taking a while to complete. Make sure that you are setting targets and goals so that everyone is aware of what they need to be aiming for. When you delegate, ensure you set tasks that are manageable for your employees, the last thing you want is to add to someone’s stress levels if they aren’t able to do the work.

Approachable

As a boss, it is essential that you are approachable and offer a listening ear whenever needed. If you were based in the office, then your workers would be able to come into your office and talk to you. Make sure that you are still offering the same services while working from home. Just because you aren’t there in person doesn’t mean you can’t be there over the phone or video chat. It can be hard for workers to feel close to you as a boss but it doesn’t need to be.
