If you’re the owner of a small business or startup, there is no way that you should be wasting your time on tasks that you are not all that good at or which you do not particularly enjoy doing. It is much smarter, and more economical, to outsource those kinds of tasks to a third party so you can concentrate on doing the things that you ARE good and which will directly allow you to add value to your company.
That being said, there are definitely some tasks that are much easier to outsource than others. To give you an idea about the kind of work you could, and probably should, be giving to freelancers, here are some of them:
Scheduling, Appointment Management and Call Answering
These are all basic admin tasks that no small business owner really needs to be doing themselves, unless your budget is so low that you have no other choice, that is. There are lots of excellent virtual assistants who can do this kind of thing for you, especially if you use the cloud and services like Skype to set your business up for remote working. Save your own time and use it to add value to your company via your creativity instead.
IT Support
It support is one of those things you could do for yourself if you have the knowledge and skills to get the job done quickly. However, if you aren’t exactly the most technically minded, you have to ask yourself if it’s worth saving a few bucks on IT support if it means you have to spend hours working out how to fix a thing. When there are excellent managed support services being offered at very reasonable prices by the likes of Zycom, it undoubtedly isn’t. Have someone who’s qualified to take care of IT issues do it and you do what you know you can do best.
Graphic Design
Graphic design is vital to modern businesses who operate largely online. You need a good logo and an attractive looking website to stand out and convinced customers to buy from you, and that’s exactly why you should outsource the work. You want a professional look to represent your brand, right? Enough said.
Content Writing
If you can write well, content writing is one of those areas where you can easily save money by doing it all yourself, but if you don’t exactly have a way with words, you’re better off hiring a decent freelancer to do the job for you. If it’s taking up so much of your time that you can’t do everything else you need to do to keep your business afloat, you should also consider outsourcing because it is a job that can so easily be done remotely, and for which there are so many talented candidates that to do otherwise would be foolish.
Bookkeeping
Bookkeeping is essential for any business, but it is also tedious and as your business grows, it can get pretty complicated. You’ll have a far easier time if you outsource it to a professional, not least because they know all of the loopholes that could save you a few dollars.
