Alright everyone… You may be wondering what happened to me over the last week. So, here it is. I have been “out of the office†or on a partial vacation as I like to call it. I have been in Nashville, TN for the past week at a student business conference and competition for Phi Beta Lambda.
Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is apart of the largest student business organization in the world with close to about 11,000 members in the collegiate division and then more than 250,000 in the high school division (FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America). For those of you who have read my blog since the beginning or read my “A Crash Course in Entrepreneurship†blog you may remember me talking about FBLA and PBL in previous posts. Anyway, I was there with about 1,700 other college kids for the week where we stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Resort (which is amazing!) for the conference and competition.
My self and my partner, Bobby Hash (http://www.hmediapro.com) worked as a team to develop a website for the Website Development competition which was to be on the town that you college is set in. Anyway, long story short, we won first place in the state of Virginia in the spring at the State Leadership Conference. So then we advanced to the National Leadership Conference in Nashville.
Our website (http://www.professionalgfx.net/pbl) must have just been that good. By the time you reach the final conference and presentation, the judges have already seen your website and judged it, it comes down to the presentation that you give on it and on the different things that you put into your site. Well, our presentation whooped some serious ass!
Long story short, we had an awesome time in Nashville and came away with the title of First Place in Website Development in the Nation! We are both very excited about it and are looking forward to the opportunities that come from it. My partner has already had the win help him secure an internship for the summer and I may have a short term job/freelance contract lined up within the next couple days because of our work.
Anyway, here’s a picture of the two of us after the final closing session at the conference with our awards.
thats awesome!! congrats!
