It is probably the most time you have ever had to spend in your dorm room this past year, but you can still successfully set up a business from your desk, even if you are currently living in a small space.
Believe In Yourself
If you are passionate about a certain idea for your business or have a skill you can develop into a brand product, then having the confidence to follow through with your idea is your first hurdle. As long as you believe in your idea and have the ambition and are willing to work hard, then it can certainly be achieved.
Brainstorming Ideas
As a starting point it is useful to write down and brainstorm your ideas, to allow your thoughts to develop. It allows you to think of other ideas for your business as opposed to just going for the first idea that pops into your head.
Office Supplies
It is certainly useful to have plenty of notepads, pens, sticky notes, paper and accessories for your appliance like a fiber optic cable. They are prone to snagging over time, so having a few tucked away in your desk drawer will be helpful.
Ensuring You Have Cloud Storage
When you start your own business, having the most up to date software and cloud storage is important to be able to back up any necessary files. In the event that your laptop were to break down, at least you would know that you would be able to gain access to your files by reloading your files from cloud storage on another device.
Organization is Key
Try and separate your room if possible into half a working environment and the other part for relaxing. It might help you be more productive if you need to focus on working when you can mentally get into the zone. Or if this is not possible due to the size of your room at university, it might be useful instead to have an organization system in place so that you have space for all your creative ideas for the business which can be packed away when you need to study instead.
Assess Your Finances
Putting cash into your business is going to be vital to be able to progress and develop in future. Initially it will be expenses on the appropriate software and office supplies, but further on down the line you will need to consider where you are going to relocate to once you leave university. This will be especially important if you are going to begin a manufacturing process by developing a product, so you will need a bigger space. Then there will be rent costs, utility bills and staff to help you run your business. As long as you include these with your business plan then you are certainly heading in the right direction.
