Getting a new vehicle can be an exciting time – whether you’re looking for your own set of wheels or the new company van. However, it’s also a time when you need to put a little bit of thought into what you’re buying if you want to enjoy ownership of your new vehicle. When it comes to purchasing a new van that you’re going to be using to carry out work, your priorities aren’t going to be quite the same as when you’re looking for a new family run-around. However, one thing that will still be the same is your desire to find good value – after all, nobody wants to pay over the odds. With this in mind, we think that the best way of sourcing a van is to buy one used using a site like Vcars – and here’s why.

You could of course buy brand new from a dealership. Walk in and the very same day have a finance agreement in place, and shiny new workhorse scheduled to be delivered in a few weeks’ time. There’ll be no worried about reliability because the van will be under warranty, and you can be certain that it hasn’t had a hard life before coming to you. Alternatively, you might decide to lease the van, in which case you’d still be getting a new vehicle and all of the same perks.

So why wouldn’t you want a van like this?

The answer is that in an ideal world it would be great to have something brand new, but it doesn’t always represent good value for money, and this is especially true for work vans. There are several reasons for this.

The first is that vans are built to be durable in the first place, so where a car might be suffering from some wear and tear once it’s just a couple of years old, this is unlikely to be the case for most vans. This means that you should easily be able to find a van in good condition, and don’t really need to worry about it cosmetically. After all, a big point of buying a new car is so that you get it in pristine condition – does this really matter when it’s a durable work van?

The second point is that many manufacturers offer very competitive warranties these days, which means that you could purchase a van that’s one or two years old and still benefit from one. That way someone else would be taking the hit of depreciation, and you’d still get most of the benefits.

So when you’re next looking for a work van, consider that a used one of just a few years old might be a much better choice than splashing out on something brand new.
